OXO Camping Stove

A portable stove-top concept for families and campers, designed for OXO Camp and Grill.

Project intent

Timeline

48 Hours, October 2-October 4 2024

Skills used

-Brand research

-Analog sketching

-Fusion 360

-3D printing

-Keyshot

In this design sprint, we examined OXO's product line and created a product that they didn't already have but would fit into their product line. This was a group project with the goal of learning to design in a team setting, as well as work within a brand's specific design language and branding.

Each member had a hand in every step of the process, from research, to ideation, to CAD Modeling.

Brand Identity

We began by examining OXO's design choices and identified what makes each object fit into their language and family of form. We looked for patterns in their materials, colors, touch points and curves.

Gaps in Product Offerings

OXO's camp line currently includes a number of camp stove related products, such as spatulas, pans, brushes and scrapers. However, they do not currently offer the grill itself so our team found an opportunity for expansion.

-More sturdy

-Can fit many different pot/ pan options

-Bulky/ not portable

- Tends to get very hot

-Requires a large fuel canister

vs.

"Pocket rocket" style stove

-Caters to backpackers who value lightweight options

-Very portable

-Cannot use larger cookware

-Smaller flame

-No internal ignitor

Interface simplicity

Clean form factors

Material honesty

Group Sketching

By sketching together the team was able to ideate quickly as well as collaborate on everything from overall form to intricate details

CAD Modeling

Each member of the team modeled an iteration of the main body of the stove, focusing on minor changes to form details. We then voted on a final base design to use as a platform for designing the rest of the parts, such as the grate, burner, button and cover.

Rapid Prototyping

After finalizing our design, we 3D printed a model at scale to get an idea of form factors, touch points and piece fitment.
